MISSION

POCC Inc. is an organization of dedicated Black gay men committed to honoring, affirming and nurturing the rich and numerous connections we share with each other. Our mission is to build community and improve the quality of life and health among gay men, bisexual, men who have sex with men and trans-gendered individuals of African decent through advocacy, education and direct services.

HISTORY

POCC Inc. was founded in 1988 by a group of African-American and Caribbean gay men. As many of these men watched their friends, lovers, and family struck down by AIDS they were determined to do something about it. The agency’s original mission was to provide the community with education, support and resources on HIV. Over the years POCC has offered a wide variety of programming in response to the ever changing nature of HIV/AIDS epidemic and the issues important to Black gay men. In last couple of years, the agency’s mission has expanded to include all aspects of Black gay men’s lives and trans-gendered individuals.
